Manmatha Roy

I am an Associate Scientist at the Indian Statistical
Institute, Kolkata, where I am also pursuing my PhD under the joint supervision of
Subhamoy Maitra and
Arijit Ghosh.
My work is in theoretical computer science, centred on the analysis of Boolean functions.
One theme runs through much of my research: structure is what makes problems
tractable. I am interested in discovering and exploiting hidden structure in
huge combinatorial objects, and using it to design efficient algorithms, with applications
ranging from cryptography to learning theory.
Before joining ISI Kolkata, I spent a couple of years at the Centre for Distributed Computing,
Jadavpur University, working on the design and development of critical software systems.
